And So The Lion Gobbled Up The Lamb, Like It's Supposed To

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I don't care about Halloween, but everyone makes such pretty manis for the occasion that it's hard to not want to join in. One of my favorite blogs for Halloween-themed designs is Deez Nailz. Her nail art is always so neat and freaking adorable, and I especially like her Dracula post. So I went ahead and copied it. Or tried to, with disastrous results.

Please don't laugh!!
I started with two coats of Color Club Pretty in Platinum. To make the faces sparkle, I applied a thin coat of Nubar Angelic Glitter over each nail. Then I used the Kiss Brush-On Nail Art in black to put on the hair and mouth. The fangs were done with Kiss Brush-On Nail Art in white, and then tipped with Milani Ruby Jewels. I then used a red oval gem for the eyes, and put a dot of black in the center of each gem for pupils. I put angry eyebrows above the gem-eyes, and that was it. No topcoat or anything.
I wish I had used Icing Peacock for the base though, because I think you can't really see the fangs.

I meant for them to look menacing and evil (as vampires ought to be, vicious bloodthirsty creatures that they are), but they just look....special. Especially the pinky one. Its eyes are so crazy, among other things. I feel like if I were accosted by a vampire that looked like this, I instead of dying of fright or exsanguination, I'd die of laughter. Smh!

On a more cheerful note, there's a blog award!! I was tagged for it by the lovely and talented Varnish Vixen, so a giant thank you goes to her. The rules are that I gotta answer some questions, so here we go:

I love Spongebob so much.

1. Why did you create the blog?
Well, firstly, my polish stash was getting out of control, and I needed a place where I could keep organized pictures and detailed thoughts about each polish. I considered fotki and flickr, but ultimately decided on Blogger. Plus, I wanted to make friends with other nail bloggers because this seemed like such an awesome community (it really is), and I wanted another hobby, because crocheting was getting boring and obsolete since spring was coming.

2. What kind of blogs do you follow?
Mostly nail blogs. I also follow some weight-loss blogs, some hair blogs, and one very special and hilarious blog, Hyperbole and a Half

3. Do you have a favorite make-up brand?
I like covergirl (hate their animal testing though) and milani.

4. And a favorite clothing brand?
Nope! If it fits and looks okay, it's good enough for me.

5. What make-up products are essential for you?
I don't really wear makeup, but I need to have my Wet n Wild liquid eyeliner, Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse foundation, and Covergirl Lash Blast Luxe or Volume. They make me look human. ^_^

6. What’s your favorite color?
In general, blue. For nail polish, it's a tie between purple and green, although blue is a close third.

7. What’s your favorite perfume?
Britney Spears Fantasy....don't look at me like that.
I'm extremely partial to Hidden Fantasy, with Midnight Fantasy running a very close second.

8. What’s the film you liked the most?
Bleh....too hard. But a rule of thumb is if Tim Burton made it, I love it. With the exception of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Favorites specifically are Big Fish, Pan's Labyrinth, Constantine, Zombieland (great Halloween movie), Memoirs of a Geisha, 300, Wedding Crashers and a Beautiful Mind.

9. What countries would you like to go to?
Heehee...you don't even have time to hear this list. I'd love to visit Egypt, South Africa, Australia, Greece, Cyprus, Ireland, India, Slovenia (Slovenians seem so sweet and friendly), Ecuador via The Galapagos Islands, Peru, Spain, Italy, Russia, The Phillipines, South Korea, Tunisia, Greenland, Brazil, Norway, The Maldives, Tibet.....I just want to go everywhere. ^_^

And now I get to tag people, but I'm gonna be a little unorthodox with it and tag all the blogs I follow. Is evil, no? I blame the Halloween spirit. (n_n)
So if I'm your follower, and you haven't been tagged with this award yet, then consider yourself tagged. Muahahaha! (That's an evil laugh, not a mirthful one.)

Wishing you ladies and any munchkins in your lives a safe and happy Halloween!

Pumpkins Scream In the Dead of the Night....Sort Of

Ahhh confession time: I don't celebrate Halloween. Don't look at me like that. We used to celebrate it, until my mom became convinced that Halloween was a devilish holiday, rife with evildoing and witchcraft. My sister and I tried to convince her otherwise, but that was the end of Halloween for my family, because my mom's word is law. I was sad at first, but now I don't care.  My friends will be planning elaborate costumes with bubbles and fireworks and levitating cats and shit, and I'll just stay at home, watching movies and eating candy. Or if I have homework, I'll do that while muching my candies. (No matter what, there must be candies.) That's my Halloween, and it suits me fine.
But everyone in the nail world seems to love Halloween, which inspired me to try out a spooky mani for myself.

I was trying to replicate the killer from the Scream movies. I wanted to put a spin on it by making the face orange and the eyes more triangular. Like a screaming pumpkin. But I don't have a good orange polish, so I went with a more faithful adaptation.
For the base, I used two coats of Pretty in Platinum and for the features, I used Kiss Brush on Nail Paint in Black.
And I have a new-found level of respect for ladies who freehand nail art...just doing these basic ovals was hard as hell.

Sunlight, no flash.
The index finger's mouth is upside down...and the pinky scream looks...special.

Sunlight, no flash.

Sunlight, no light.

This is what I was going for, minus the blood.
I just realized that I forgot the nose.

But you wanna know something funny? I went out with this mani on, and a very sweet lady in CVS complimented me on my "cow spot nails". I'm well aware that this mani looks all types of crazy, but cow spots? For real though?!

Happy Halloween Eve!!

Layering Fun Deux

So yesterday, I had to take off my underwater dragon cave mani, because it was chipping, and I hate chipped nails. I was a little bit stumped with what to use next, but ultimately decided to recreate yesterday's mani, using purple versions of the same polishes.

This was made with:
1 coat of Color Club Groove Thang
1 coat of Zoya Mimi
1 coat of Sinful Colors Hottie
1 coat of Nfu-Oh 51

I think it looks okay...it reminds me a little of OPI Merry Midnight. Maybe this one is a little more crackhead-y. In any case, I liked the green one way better.

And unrelated, I just wanted to give a quick heads up, to let you know that the Rescue Beauty Lounge sale is about to be on. It's on Monday, from 11am - 4pm, and more details are available on Rescue Beauty's facebook page. Ji already sent out emails about it, so if you want in and haven't gotten an email yet, make sure to go to the website and sign up, so you can be included in the second round of emails. Even if you already are signed up for newsletters, she said the software is acting crazy, so if you haven't been emailed yet, just sign up again. You're gonna need the email to get the code.
  If you're gonna participate, what are you planning on grabbing? I'm still working on my list...there's so much that I want, and this budget is killing me. Damn you, fiscal responsibility and self-reliance. ;__;

Have a great night, guys! (And don't forget to click the link at the top of the page! ^_^)

Layering Fun

Well, today was the first day of work, and it was kind of a disaster. LOL. First, I woke up like fifteen minutes before I was actually supposed to be there...thankfully, the place was only around the corner from my dorm, so I wasn't late. But the person who hired me forgot I was coming, and he was like twenty minutes late. I totally rushed for no reason. Then, they didn't have anything for me to do...I ran one errand which took about ten minutes, and then I sat at the reception desk and studied for the next three hours.  A bunch of my professors came in and were just looking at me like, hey you girl who never answers questions in class...da hell you doing here? O_o.  So I awkwardly had to explain that I work there now...apparently, no one mentioned it to anyone. Then when my time was up, I left the office, only to be greeted by the second coming of Noah's flood. So my hair currently looks a mess, and I don't think my flats are going to make it. At least my nails were looking fierce through it all. But the weather was crazy, so the pictures suck. I got like twenty minutes of sunlight (fifteen of which were spent fighting with my camera) and then it was cloudy/rainy for the rest of the day.

This is:
1 coat of Color Club Groove Thang
1 coat of Zoya Charla
1 coat of Sinful Colors Nail Junkie
1 coat of Nfu-Oh 52

Sunlight, no flash.
Sorry for the tip wear..it's been a few days.

Natural light, no flash.

Natural light, with gentle flash.
This one is kind of blurry, but I like it because it brings out more of the green that I see most of the time on my nail.

Natural light, no flash.

Natural light, no flash.
Why yes, that is a chip. I have a bunch more on my right hand...I'm not sure who to blame, because these polishes have always been good to me. Maybe they just don't like one another.

Sunlight, no flash.

My inspiration for this was like...an underwater cave. Like this:

Ahh I love this! It definitely took the best of each of the polishes I used to create it...the darkness of Groove Thang, the foil-y quality from Charla, the coppery/gold glitter from Nail Junkie, and the duochrome flakes of the Nfu-Oh. Everything shows the perfect amount, and it just looks so good, if I do say so myself. I especially love the gold glitter peeking through, and the duochrome flakes. The gold doesn't show in the pictures, but it looks awesome...like treasure. And the flakes give the polish a greenish-cast most of the time...it looks more like dragon hide than an underwater cave, which is okay because I love dragons. But when I tilt my hand a certain way, the flakies are blue, and I get my cave. I'm so mad that my pictures suck today...of all days. x_X
But the good news is that the search is officially on for a new camera...I still can't afford one, but when I can, I want to be ready. Do you have any suggestions? I'm thinking a Canon, Panasonic, or Sony. Kodak is open too...my current one is a Kodak, and it's served me really well. Now, it's an ancient POS, but when it was still young, it was so wonderful...such beautiful pictures it made. But I feel like I want to try something new. My last camera was a Kodak too, so maybe it's time to branch out? Bleh, idk. What do you guys think?

But that's all I've got for today. Have a lovely night!

ETA: Wait no, I lied. I got moah. Breast Cancer Awareness month is almost over, and the Breast Cancer Site is still a far way from reaching their goal of 500 mammograms! Please click that link at the top of the page and help them out? It only takes a second, doesn't cost a dime, and this month, your click is doubled. Thanks!!

Finger Paints Winter's Whisper + Haul

Guess what, guess what, guess whatt?! I GOT A JOB!! *does Survival Scroll dance*
It's as an office assistant in my major department's office, and even though it's going to be tedious bitch work, I am so super happay! Unemployment and brokeness begone!! ^__^
It's a shame I don't have something more cheerful on to celebrate the occasion, but oh well...we're gonna roll with it. This is Finger Paints Winter's Whisper from the Seduced by Fall Collection.

Winter's Whisper is a graphite grey polish with lots of flaky silver shimmer.

I don't really like Winter's Whisper. I admire the color...it looks so deliciously cold and industrial. But I don't like the effect that the shimmer brings. It's not the kind of shimmer that sparkles at all....it's definitely the kind that shines, which gives the polish a dull metallic sheen. It makes me feel like I colored my nails with a pencil and then covered it with topcoat....it's just so...flat. No bueno.
Application-wise, Winter's Whisper gave me a bit of trouble as well...the formula was thin, and it took about four coats to get it to bottle color. It felt like it took a million years too. But on the upside, Winter's Whisper actually went on smoothly and dried quickly.

I decided to try it matte and added one coat of Essie Matte About You to the mix.

I like Winter's Whisper much more as a matte. The flatness is so becoming and makes the polish look even colder and more industrial. Interestingly enough, the matteness really brings out that "pencil lead" look. But it somehow appears much better.

And I have some haulage to share! Don't look at me like that.
This first set of pictures are from Magic Maid's blog sale, which I  mentioned yesterday:

Konad Plate M12
That reindeer makes me so uncomfortable...why does he look so evil? o_O

Konad Plate M13
Ahh I love the little voodoo man and the zombie girl. So cute!

Sally Hansen Mystic Lilac and LA Girl Rock Star Groupie

OPI La Paz-i-tively Hot Matte and China Glaze Pink Rox-E
I've been lemming these for so long, and it's great to have them.

Diamond Cosmetics Chainmail Charm and Misa Toxic Seduction

Finger Paints Evergreen Dream and Icy Iris
Huge huge huge lemmings, both of these. Especially Icy Iris...*sigh*

This second group is from Sephora. Upon hearing about the Family and Friends sale, I went to the website and acted a fool. :(
But the shipping was crazy fast, you know...I ordered like at 3am on Friday morning, and bam...they were here by 10am today. O_O

Illamasqua Rampage and Phallic.
Ahh I love the names on these...they sound so wild and animalistic.

Illamasqua Baptiste and NARS Tokaido Express

I would feel worse about these, except for that they were on sale. Plus, I am currently standing on top of a mountain of dead lemmings, and it feels so gewd. Plus, I'm still on budget, because I ate less than normal thi month.
PLUS. I got a job. Ohohohoho.

But that's all I've got for today...gotta gotta run to class. Wishing you a beautiful Monday! ^_^
