Confetti Moonstruck

This is gonna be a quick post, since I'm supposed to be packing my stuff to leave this place and am wayy behind schedule. I wish I could press a button and fold my room into a little box, like they used to do in the cartoons. But anyway, here's Confetti Moonstruck.

Moonstruck is a pale grey-ish taupe creme.

I'm going to keep Moonstruck. This type of color has been everywhere since last fall, so it's not unique. But still, I am fond of it. It's very simple, understated, and clean...perfect for when you don't want your nails to take center stage or just need to cleanse the palate. Plus, I like how it looks on my nails.
I also liked how Moonstruck applied. It was a bit too liquidy, but went on like butter and leveled itself beautifully. Three coats of color and a layer of topcoat gave me a perfect, creme-y look, with very little effort on my part. Ooh, also, the brush in this bottle was indeed doing the gangsta lean, but really, I don't understand...like what people are moaning about. I turned the brush to accommodate for the direction of the slant in relation to my nail, and all was well. It was a little inconvenient, but I really don't think it's a big deal.

And that's all I've got for you today! Thanks for reading, and have a lovely hump day!

China Glaze Below Deck

After like weeks of glitter and shimmer, it was time to cleanse my palate. That desire, combined with my new resolution to at least make an effort to keep up with the polish world, made me put on Below Deck, from China Glaze's recently released Anchors Away Collection.

Below Deck is a taupey-lavenderish-greyish creme.

Below Deck is such a weird color. It's like...if taupe and grey both had a thing with lavender, and then lavender had Below Deck. But lavender couldn't tell who the daddy was just by looking at baby Below Deck, because it looks like both of them, so everyone had to go on Maury. That's what it's like. But despite its convoluted and scandalous origins, I like Below Deck. It's subdued without boring, and I don't really have many of this type of polish, so it fills a big gap in my collection.
And I have to give China Glaze a high five for Below Deck's formula. They did such a good job! It was so creamy and smooth, and went on so nicely with no streaking or dragging. The pigmentation was also excellent, and Below Deck reached opacity in only two coats. I added a layer of topcoat for shine, and the whole thing dried really fast. In the pictures, I feel like it looks like there were leveling issues, but that was from my topcoat, not Below Deck.

And that is all I've got for today! Thanks for reading, and have a happy Sunday! ^_^

Zoya Jules

For today, I have Jules, from Zoya's recently released Intimates Collection.

Jules is a taupe-champagne and slightly frosty metallic base with tons of fine gold and silver shimmer.

Jules reminds me of elderly people. I know that can be construed as an insult, but I don't mean it like that...just when I looked at it, I was like omg, this looks like an old lady. Maybe because of the frostiness...it just looks really old-fashioned and vintage-y. But anyway, Jules is a pretty one. In sunlight, it's very shimmery and in lower light, you can see all these little gold and silver speckles in it...it kind of makes me think of brocade cloth too:

Alas, Julie looks a hot mess on me. It would look great on someone with lighter skin and incredible on someone with darker skin, but unfortunately, I feel like my skin is that perfect tone for it to just look a hot mess on me.
Formula-wise, Jules was okay. A bit thick, but workable. I would suggest using as few strokes as possible and waiting a little bit between coats for the smoothest finish. I actually had to apply Jules twice because I had crazy brushstrokes and bubbles the first time, and the above modifications to my technique helped a ton. Jules was also very well-pigmented and was opaque in two coats, which is what I used in the pictures.

And that's all I've got for today! Thanks for reading, and have an awesome day! ^_^

L.A. Girl Rock Star Collection (Part One?)

Since I have no school and no life for the next week (it feels so gewd), I finally had time to sit down and swatch some polishes. I decided to do three of the four yet to be posted on this blog colors that I have from the L.A. Girl Rock Star Collection.

Swatches after the jump!
